Rugby ATL Partners with Spratlin & Son Construction

Building the Future through Youth Rugby

(Marietta, GA: Monday July 19th- 2:00 PM) Rugby ATL has partnered with Spratlin & Son Construction to bolster the development of our communities’ youth through rugby.

Spratlin & Son’s focus on youth development starts with their creative initiative to incentivise our youth to get active and play rugby.   Through the partnership,  FREE tickets to Major League Rugby matches in Atlanta are provided to participants in Rugby ATL’s “Friday Night Youth Sessions,” a 1-hour rugby practice for kids from 5-19 years of age.  These sessions are designed  to develop the lifelong skills of teamwork, communication and friendships.  Additionally, youth who participate in 12 of the remaining 20 sessions in 2021, will receive a FREE season ticket to Rugby ATL in 2022.  The sessions are run by professional rugby players from both Major League Rugby and the Women’s Premier League, who are fully equipped to develop those who participate regardless of their skill level.

Mike Cartner and Jim Gaine’s commitment to providing opportunities for our youth to play active team sports supports one of three main priorities for Rugby ATL. Their commitment to our shared PACE values was at the forefront of the partnership agreement and Rugby ATL will proudly wear the Spratlin & Son Construction logo on the top back of their jersey next Saturday night in the Eastern Conference Finals vs. Rugby United New York.

“Spratlin & Son Construction is proud to support Rugby ATL in their pursuit of the Major League Rugby Championship and building youth rugby throughout the region. Mike Cartner and I forged our friendship on the rugby pitch as leaders of the Clemson University Rugby team more than 25 years ago. Our partnership at Spratlin & Son is based on the same high quality work, dedication to our team and commitment to those we serve. Like rugby, we value our culture, history and commitment to excellence,” said Jim Gaine.

Since 1952, Spratlin & Son Construction has been a leader in the commercial construction industry throughout Georgia and South Carolina. Building the future while restoring the past is reflected in our wide ranging portfolio from award winning state of the art fire stations, cyber training facilities and rehabilitated historic structures.

“Our commitment to developing leaders of the community through sport starts with our youth, and this partnership will bolster that effort. Mike and Jim are products of rugby and like-minded in our PACE values. We look forward to strategically using our combined presence across the southeast to elevate our youth, the community, and develop the game of rugby,” said Kevin McCorry II, of Rugby ATL.

Rugby ATL entered Major League Rugby in 2018 and began to play and influence the community through their commitment to their PACE core values. (People Development, Accountability, Creating Change & Execution)

Rugby ATL Aims to Clinch Playoff Berth

Week 17 Major League Rugby Preview

Utah Warriors vs. Rugby ATL

Herriman, UT — Rugby ATL hits the road this weekend in search of clinching their first playoff berth against the surging Utah Warriors in a Week 17 matchup.

Saturday night’s match will feature the #1 seed in the East and the #2 seed in the West, who both control their own destiny on the road to the playoffs with two games to play.

Coming off a bye week and a 32-12 win in Week 15 versus Old Glory DC,  Rugby ATL enters Saturday rested and focused. The team holds a 5 point lead in the table over both the number two (New York) and three (New Orleans) seeds in the Eastern Conference.

“Traveling to Utah to play a tough, well coached outfit in the form of the Warriors is no easy task.  The environment will be an electric one to be a part of and we’re looking forward to experiencing it first hand. Discipline and execution will be the keys to the game,” said General Manager & Head Coach, Scott Lawrence.

Rugby ATL will also see Captain Ryan Nell return to the line-up, ending his long road to recovery. The savvy veteran has been leading from outside the white lines, but this weekend will strap up with the “C” on the number 13 jersey.

“I am really looking forward to getting on the pitch again with the team. It’s been special to be part of the growth of this group- now getting the chance to wear the jersey and take the field with them again is very exciting for me. The team has good momentum going at the moment and I look forward to contributing toward that. There’s a real sense of purpose and the guys work hard for each other.  It’s always special being part of that. I’m looking forward to the challenge against Utah on Saturday night,” said Captain, Ryan Nell.

Utah will enter Saturday’s game fresh off a bye backed by a 6 game win streak, but they will be six players short of their Week 15 roster as these players have been called up to their respective national teams for the World Rugby International summer test matches. Five of these players are rostered for our USA Eagles this weekend as they play Ireland in Dublin at the Aviva Stadium. Unquestionably, the entire Rugby ATL faithful will be fully behind them this weekend!

Rugby ATL’s secret to success all year has been execution and accountability to the game plan. They can not afford to look at the table or the Utah Roster.  MLR fans saw first hand last week from the Toronto Arrows how a group of contract hungry individuals, with nothing to lose, pulled off the upset over Old Glory (34-28).

A win this weekend earns Rugby ATL a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference playoffs.  New Orleans and New York will face each other in the last game of the season, a potential play-in game powder keg in Week 18.

Adding to the hype for the weekend, Major League Rugby and Rugby ATL have partnered with American Cancer Society and DASH Auction to raise funds for cancer research! ATL’s specialty designed, game-worn & signed jerseys will be auctioned “with profits to be donated to the American Cancer Society! Bid on the one-of-a-kind jerseys and support the cause, on DASH Auction!
