General Manager Scott Lawrence has spent a significant portion of his professional career developing rugby talent and designing teams that exemplify the P.A.C.E. values of Rugby ATL: People Development, Embracing Accountability, Create Change and Focus on Execution.
As a former USA Eagle, Lawrence has seen rugby from a player and coach’s perspective. Prior to his appointment with Rugby ATL, Lawrence was the USA Rugby National Team Defense Coach (2017-2018) and remains the USA Rugby Selects Head Coach. He has successfully developed talent on an international scale as a USA Rugby U-20 Coach, a team which holds a winning record over 4 seasons in international play and won the 2012 Junior World Trophy. Former players from this team have gone on to be named Collegiate All-Americans, with some going on to play professionally. Additionally, Lawrence served as the USA Rugby High Performance Manager 2007-2008.
Prior to starting with RugbyATL in 2019 Lawrence spent 15 years at Life University serving in various roles as Head Coach of the club and undergraduate, Director of Rugby, and Director of Performance. Lawrence was part of a talented group of coaches and administrators at Life University that grew from a humble start of 13 players in 2004 to competing in 10 National Championship games across club and undergraduate in the last decade, winning 7.
With an aptitude in strategy development and a meticulous eye for detail, Lawrence has found success professionally in a variety of mediums. His background in retail focused on end customer analytics, spans a 15-year time period, which saw more than a dozen new products enter into all major economic markets. Lawrence was crucial in the development of a global expansion strategy, which enabled him to work internationally with 5+ countries and curate a common vision and objectives, despite cultural and geographic challenges. His experience in leading strategy organizations focusing on market segmentation, targeted marketing, and launch has equipped him with the knowledge, skills, and ability to tackle the start up of a new team in the MLR.
Lawrence holds a degree in computational mathematics from Michigan State University and an Organizational Leadership certificate from the Michigan Ross School of Business.
“Our intention is to provide an epicenter of people development through rugby in the Southeastern United States using homegrown talent and the best resources.” Scott Lawrence exemplifies this vision and will push the P.A.C.E here in Atlanta.
