Born in Jersey City, NJ Eamonn Matthews began playing rugby at 14 years old for Jersey City Police Athletic League during his last year of middle school.

Matthews then enrolled at Xavier High School in NYC where took on the mission to change the world. Under the direction of Eagle #384 Michael Petri, he developed the rugby & leadership skills to advance the team to 3 New York State Championships and also earned a 2015 USA Rugby High School All American selection.

Recognized for his skills and game management, Matthews was heavily recruited to St. Bonaventure University as a Robert Peraza Scholarship recipient. The eventual 2x Captain helped leave the jersey in a better place and was personally recognized as the 2018 D1A Rugby East MVP, 2018 1st Team All-Conference and was selected to the United States U20 team in 2017.

Matthews joins Rugby ATL after helping set the foundation with the 404, Rugby ATL’s Southeastern Regional Development Team.Outside of the game, Matthews is consistently creating change by volunteering in community, hanging out with friends or reading from his favorite author, Dr. Suess.
